IBM has launched
My developerWorks, a social networking site. "It may look small at
first: just sticking "My" in front of developerWorks. But what those
characters represent is huge: You can now interact with developerWorks'
how-to content and with your peers on a personal level—by
personalizing and customizing your view of developerWorks content so you
see just the information that's pertinent to you. My developerWorks makes
it easy. It also gives you a window into the ways your peers are using,
tagging, and contributing to the knowledge base, so you can learn from each
other while building your skills and your professional network at the same
time."

I for one can't imagine anything going wrong with a would-be social networking sight run by a large corporation that...
(a) Could lose interest at any time.
I'll pass in favor or a site run by more disinterested parties, thanks very much.

Shall we start placing "My" in front of everything again, in a vain attempt to "personalize" the net? Still they have a certain merit: they have kept the horrid developerWorks looks while stuffing it with obnoxious content. And, believe it or not, it was all created with a Lotus component. Yay!
