Stable kernel update 2.6.29.2

The 2.6.29.2 stable kernel update is out; it contains about 100 patches. "There are a lot of fixes in this release touching all over the tree. At least a few have possible security impact (e.g. af_rose, agp, capability fs_mask, splice/ocfs2). As usual, you're encouraged to upgrade."

AF_ROSE as in ax.25? Maybe it's time to retire that.

It's high time to retire A LOT of stuff...

There's all kinds of stuff in the Linux kernel whose time is ripe for retirement. But, if I understand your recommendation correctly, it's the combination of old, crufty code plus the possible security vulnerabilities lurking in that code which merit retirement from Linux.

This is part of the ax.25 ham radio protocol from the '80s, which still has one main use - telling HF stations who everybody else is hearing - but I'm not sure that the ROSE static routing protocol is a part of it any longer.

Yes. Merely being old and crufty isn't good enough: someone may still be
using it. (Hell, last week there was an argument over keeping the Voyager
code in the kernel, despite a total running-systems count of I think four,
including one that wouldn't boot and one in davem(?)'s garage...)
