I would better like to know how to prevent my X server from entering into SIGALRM loop with my Mobile GM965/GL960 IGC and Kubuntu 9.04.
Have to wait for Karmic 9.10, it seems.

Just a wild guess, but I've heard of lockups and slow downs with UXA. In those cases, EXA has worked better. Check your /var/log/Xorg.0.log and see what you are using. It should say something like:

(==) intel(0): Using EXA for acceleration
