Electronic Frontier Foundation
The EFF is challenging an illegal computer seizure
by the Boston College Campus Police.
" A Boston College computer science student has
asked a Massachusetts court to quash an invalid search
warrant for his dorm room that resulted in campus police
illegally seizing several computers, an iPod, a cell phone,
and other technology.
The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) is representing
the student, who has petitioned the court for the immediate
return of his property and is demanding that investigators
be prohibited from any further searches or analysis of his
digital data."

Back in November, the Free Software Foundation released version 1.3 of the GNU Free
Documentation License; this version contained a special escape clause
allowing sites like Wikipedia to shift to the Creative Commons CC-BY-SA
license. Some months later, the Wikimedia Foundation is voting
on whether to make this change. Anybody with at least 25 edits is able
to vote; the vote closes on May 3. " The Board has evaluated
possible licensing options for Wikimedia material, and believes that this
proposal is the best available path towards achieving our collective goal
to collect, develop and disseminate educational material, and make it
available to people everywhere, free of charge, in perpetuity."

The Linux Foundation recently
announced the winners of the Were Linux video contest.
" The journey that begin during last football season with the realization that Microsoft paid Jerry Seinfeld $10 million for his appearance in their ads is almost over. The judging for the Were Linux video contest has been completed and Im pleased to announce the finalists.
These videos reflect the best of what was truly a global community effort with videos being submitted from Asia, Europe, North America, the Middle East and South America.
The response exceeded all of our expectations: frankly I was worried wed get 20 entries, but we ended up getting over 90. We would like to thank all of the community members who took the time to submit videos. Many were smart, many were funny, all were creative." The videos themselves can be found on this page.

" Soon enough, we wanted to reiterate the HSF experience : however, it
was out of the question to institutionalize this temporary autonomous
zone, nor make it an ersatz of the previous edition, nor even to wrap
it into an "elite" or "underground" aura. On the opposite, we ardently
desire; and especially to explore further, in all directions some
lesser known domains (see below) et foster meeting and sharing around
experiences at the confluence of art, technology and politics."

Matt Domsch has a reminder about the LinuxCon CFP deadline in his blog. Presentation proposals are due by April 15th. " I'm on the program committee for this new conference, and we're absolutely looking for fresh presenters and engaging topics. The conference is co-located with the Plumbers Conference, so there will be plenty of deep technical people there. But LinuxCon isn't just about low-level I-cut-my-teeth-on-Z80-assembly presentations. We want plenty of higher level system administrator, end user, and business executive relevant topics too."
