Being one of these problematic emacs users I blame all those graphical console programs (kterm, gnome-terminal) to inhibit me from presing M-d to remove the last word. Instsead they open the file dialog (having a german localization "Datei") wich is really anoying.

By the way I think , rm -r is one of the reasons why graphical destops hide the console shell program within the menu somewhere beneath
start->tools->system-tools->I-really-hope-you-wont-look-further->console.
And I accept that!

gnome-terminal at least has a an option to disable those -- it's hidden under Edit -> Keyboard Shortcuts -> Enable menu access keys
