The effort of moving from gtk to gtkmm, I would catiously say, is as big as having moved to any other C++ toolkit (± a few per-toolkit subtleties).
I pray wxWidgets, because I can switch underlying toolkits as I like (currently it seems like just a recompilation of the end-user program away). Now if there was a wxQt, you would get world domination as a bonus. I wonder whether anything will be done in that direction, because GNOME left a bad mark when Linus flamed it years ago for the interface doctrine.
