Another alternative seen in mobile phones is OBEX-FTP over USB. OBEX doesn't appear to be a proper open standard: the specifications aren't freely available or redistributable - leaked versions and earlier versions don't count - and this makes it undesirable for Free Software, regardless of whether projects already exist that deal with it.
