I'm delighted to announce the release of new stable versions of
TuxOnIce, the hibernate script and TuxOnIce's userspace user interface.
For TuxOnIce, it's been more than three years since the last stable
release (2.2). The major change to the code in that time has been the
addition of multithreaded I/O, together with improvements to the
existing asynchronous I/O support. These features are becoming more
important as multicore and multi-processor computers become more common,
storage speeds up and the amount of RAM in peoples' computers increases.
With a SSD drive that he only considers 'really just okay', one TuxOnIce
user is reporting speeds for hibernation in the region of 200MB/s
writing an image and 350MB/s reading it.
This release of TuxOnIce is accompanied by a 1.0 of the userspace user
interface and version 2.0 of the hibernate script.
Please note that userui 0.7.3 or newer only will work with TuxOnIce 3 -
there has been an API change. Older versions will not stop you from
hibernating, but will not work either. The default theme for the
fbsplash userui is now 'tuxonice', not 'suspend2'.
As always, please feel free to tell me how much I need to learn about
svn or programming in general using the tuxonice-devel and -users lists.
I really do look forward to your feedback.
Nigel
