Linus has announced the release of the
2.6.29 kernel, code-named "Temporary Tasmanian Devil." For those just
tuning in, some of the most significant features of 2.6.29 include the
Btrfs filesystem (still very much in an experimental mode), the squashfs
filesystem, kernel mode setting for Intel graphics adapters, task credentials, WiMAX support,
the filesystem freeze
feature, and much more; see the KernelNewbies
2.6.29 page for all the details.
