Kernel release status
[Posted March 18, 2009 by corbet]
The current 2.6 development kernel is 2.6.29-rc8,
released by Linus on
March 12. It has the usual set of fixes, and the patch rate does seem
to be slowing down. "
In fact, it seems to be stabilizing to the
point where I'm hoping that we're approaching a final 2.6.29, and this
might be the last -rc. We'll have to see." The short-form changelog
is in the announcement, or see
the
full changelog for all the details.
As of this writing, nearly 200 changesets have been merged since
the 2.6.29-rc8 release. They are mostly fixes, there is also a new mascot
logo, a driver for ServerEngines BladeEngine 2 adapters, and a driver
for the "Dave" Ethernet controller found on the Qong Board FPGA.
The current stable 2.6 kernel is 2.6.28.8, released on March 16; the
2.6.27.20 update was released
at the same time. Both contain an even longer than usual list of important
fixes.
