If noone else asks the obvious question, I will: Why didn't Linus take
part in that? Has he mentally handed maintenance over to Andrew Morton
already?

Linus trys to stay out of discussions, he interfaces with his Leutenants instead. (Cox, Miller, Morton, Jones, etc.)
