I would think that if he were a "kernel hacker" he would have spearheaded writing the kernel for GNU/Hurd rather than waiting for others to do so, and it would be further along by now. He's not mentioned in the CREDITS or in any source file in the Linux Kernel source (v2.4.20), so he's not a Linux Kernel Hacker, though he does post on the Linux Kernel mailing list on occasion. RMS: Hacker, not Kernel Hacker
