What about seamonkey?

Usually when firefox issues an update, there's a corresponding update to the seamonkey project; does anyone know if such an update would be forthcoming? The seamonkey website doesn't seem to give any indication.

FWIW, Red Hat released a seamonkey update at the same time they released their firefox one[1]

Hey look, another release where they still didn't fix the extremely obnoxious z-order jump on render completion, a regression from 2.x that was originally in 1.x.

Monkeys is right.

Is there a link to the bugzilla? From your description, it doesn't appear to be a stability or security issue, more like a user interface change that may or may not be intentional.

I think what's happening is Firefox is grabbing the focus, and the window manager subsequently raises the window.

Firefox is "Exhibit A" when it comes to demonstrating that leaving good behavior up to applications is a Bad Idea. All it takes is one application that assumes it's more important than whatever else you happen to be working on to disrupt work flow.

I run Firefox on it's own workspace, which has been a reasonable workaround for me. The downside is that sometimes I load a page and forget about it for hours.

Here's the case that annoys me; let's see if anyone can work out what is responsible and how to fix it:

- I click on an Iceweasel link to a PDF.
- xpdf appears with the first page of the document visible, on top of Iceweasel. All OK so far.
- About 200 ms later, Iceweasel displays its "download manager" window to tell me that the PDF has been downloaded and the WM raises both the download manager window and the main iceweasel window above the xpdf window.

The first few times this happened I thought that xpdf had crashed just after opening the document, but then I realised that the PDFs were hiding behind the browser.

Is this Iceweasel's fault, or the WM's?

this is all configurable, some in the WM, some in firefox.

you can configure firefox to not popup the download window at all.

you can configure the WM to not have the download window or pdf reader popup at all.

on my system (kubuntu 8.10) the pdf reader opens a new window, but doesn't overlay what I'm reading (the tab in the taskbar for the new window has a differnent color than the other tabs), and the download manager behaves similarly.

I don't know exactly how to configure this, but since it's working differently for me than for you it's definantly configurable.

I haven't seen it in IceWM.
