I tried this on an X300 Thinkpad. The latest 2.6.29-rc6 kernel worked almost flawlessly out of the box.
I was interested to see two improvements over the standard intrepid kernel:
1) The thinkpad screen brightness buttons (fn-home fn-end) started working
2) My wireless speed off a WPA router increased by 50%

This is great for tinkering.
