Rawhide is generally a lot more unstable than Debian unstable, precisely because so many use Debian unstable, and also because Debian also has "experimental" which gets things likely to cause breakage.

experimental was introduced quite a long time after they had the 'stable', 'testing' and 'unstable' repositories. In fact I used to be on sid and updated once every three days on my desktop system. If anything ever broke, I could go back to the previous version or check back in a couple of hours and found a fixed package already available.
