**INTRODUCING LINUXCON - THE NEW TECHNICAL CONFERENCE FOR ALL MATTERS LINUX**

The Linux Foundation is pleased to announce the launch of LinuxCon, a
brand new annual North American technical conference. The 1st Annual
LinuxCon is taking place September 21 - 25, 2009 in Portland, OR.

Linux is poised to become a 50 billion dollar ecosystem by 2011. While
there are many point developer conferences for Linux today, there is
not a comprehensive and high quality gathering for developers and
users of Linux to come together and collaborate. LinuxCon will do
just this - bringing together the best and brightest the Linux
community has to offer, including core developers, administrators, end
users, community managers and industry experts. It will also touch on
those areas that revolve around Linux, including enterprise computing,
the mobile/embedded arena, cloud computing and virtualization.
LinuxCon will gather the best technical talent in the world with the
decision makers and experts guiding the Linux ecosystem into the
future. ATTEND LINUXCON AND BE A PART OF THIS COMMUNITY.

LinuxCon will feature over 75 conference presentations divided among
five tracks and three audience types (Developers, Operations and
Business), tutorials, BoF sessions, keynotes, roundtables, a product &
technology showcase and sponsored mini-summits, as well as countless
networking opportunities in developer lounges and evening events.
LinuxCon offers a unique conference experience that encourages
collaboration, progress and interaction.

With top notch educational content and collaboration opportunities,
those that attend LinuxCon will leave more knowledgeable and better
positioned for success in the year to come.

**CALL FOR PAPERS IS NOW OPEN**
We encourage everyone in the community who is interested in speaking to apply.

There will be three different categories for submissions:
*Developer (kernel, core development, software engineering),
*Operations (sys admin and management, systems architecture, Linux
migration and deployment)
*Business (open source governance, enterprise, ecosystem)

Each of these groups plays a key role in the Linux community and we
want to make sure that they are represented at LinuxCon. The deadline
for paper submissions is April 15th.

**REGISTER TO ATTEND BY APRIL 15TH FOR THE DISCOUNTED RATE OF $299!**
For information, to register or to submit a speaking proposal, please

Just when they got the Collaboration Summit moved to the Bay area, where the participants mostly live, there's another conference in Portland. Well, it beats Austin, I guess.

LinuxCon will be here in Portland this year in order to co-locate with the second Linux Plumbers Conference. LPC will be here this year because it was organized last year primarily by folks in Portland, which as you know hosts a large concentration of Linux kernel developers. Both events stand a good chance of moving elsewhere next year---if you and a group of your peers would like to take on the challenge of putting either of them on in the Bay Area in 2010, please let the organizers know as soon as possible.
