GNOME considers DVCS choices

I might have missed something by not reading everything thoroughly through, but did a majority of developers express their discontent with e.g. svn and have many people pointed out missing features and such ?
Not saying there's no upside in choosing a dvcs especially for a group of geographically seperated developers, but I always wonder if a choice is made based on the 'ohhh shiny' techy factor or actually because something definitely is wrong with the existing product.
