Slackware 12.2 has been announced

Version 12.2 of Slackware has been announced. "Among the many program updates and distribution enhancements, you'll find two of the most advanced desktop environments available today: Xfce 4.4.3, a fast and lightweight but visually appealing and easy to use desktop environment, and KDE 3.5.10, the final 3.x version of the award-winning K Desktop Environment. We have added to Slackware support for HAL (the Hardware Abstraction Layer) which allows the system administrator to add users to the cdrom and plugdev groups." (Thanks to Alan Hicks).

Hmm, and I updated to 12.1 just two weeks ago.
What does the "added to Slackware support for HAL" mean ?
hald is running since at least 12.0 already.

I think Pat just goofed on that. Looks like he took that paragraph from 12.1 and just changed the versions for XFCE and KDE without noticing the "new" addition of HAL.

I concur with Alan... nonetheless she's still going strong.

Thanks, Patrick!

Isn't it 15 years soon?

Cool... XMMS is back!

Thanks to Pat V. and the Slackware team and volunteers. My favorite thing about 12.2 so far: XMMS is back! (It was removed from 11.x and 12/12.1, but I suppose Slackers made enough noise to have it restored... And besides, it never was broken, so no need to "fix" it.)

Nothing revolutionary, just a nice little update to the best damn distro out there. :-)

For those who might have looked at the changes in more detail, there are a few "ease of use" additions of note:
1. Wicd, a gui network-manager-like application, added to /extra
2. pm-utils, a collection of scripts to make suspend/hibernate pretty much "just work" with a little bit of user intervention (see the docs on it)
3. slackpkg is now part of the AP series instead of /extra
