Stable kernel updates 2.6.25.20 and 2.6.26.8

The 2.6.25.20 and 2.6.26.8 stable kernel updates are available. They both contain a long list of fixes, and both are intended to be the last in the series. Users who are dependent on these updates will want to consider moving to 2.6.27 in the near future.

I don't know about the 2.6.25 series, it has gone for long enough, and it was a damn good kernel (I have stayed with it until 2.6.25.19)... but I will be sad to see 2.6.26.y stop now.

IMHO 2.6.27 still isn't as trustable as it can be. We're still in the middle of the 2.6.28-rc cycle, so we are still in the find-bugs-in-stable high season... it would be nice to have 2.6.26.y go on for a bit longer.

I agree, normally there were at least two -stable branches maintained and the development branch before.

Maybe it has something to do with the fact the Greg gets abused every time he puts out a stable version. I suggest we let PaxTeam do this this insufficiently appreciated work.

The PaX author already has his hands full developing and maintaining a state of the art patchset for which he asks for, and receives, little or no credit. He has in-depth knowledge of the kernel and the consequences of it's development process because in order to maintain PaX he must track the changes. From time to time he calls out what he sees as glaringly obvious flaws or misconceptions and has indirectly pointed out to us that linux is nowhere near as robust or secure as people think it is. He is providing us all with a great service for free and is not attacking anyone or their efforts personally. He could easily be making alot of money from his knowledge and the flaws he finds. The culture that lets them happen in abundance would never be exposed.
