Debian's election season: old firmware and new contributors

It is getting toward the end of the Debian "Lenny" development cycle, so tradition requires a discussion on shipping firmware with the kernel. This discussion has duly been set in motion. Meanwhile, the project is also considering new ways of recognizing contributors in the hope of encouraging more people (not just developers) to help with the project.
