The 2.6.28 merge window closes
Linus has released 2.6.28-rc1 and closed
the merge window for this development cycle. Changes merged since the previous summary include
IA64 Xen support, ultrawideband radio (UWB) support with wireless USB
support on top of it, range
timers, and some extensive changes to the block driver API. Also, this
kernel has been named "Killer Bat of Doom."

Well at least there was a bat [as in baseball, not Batman] in Rise of the Triad, the next best game after Doom (by tech), or before Doom (by action).

Jon, I don't think the apology is necessary: being a subscriber is a good thing. Definitely worth the money.
I think you meant to say that http://lwn.net/Articles/302754/ is last week's Part I of the summary of changes coming to the 2.6.28 kernel and that it is freely available; http://lwn.net/Articles/303609/, Part II, is subscriber-only content until November 30. There's a hint that there may be a third part coming, too.

But how do I compare names easily in scripts? Which name came before another or vice versa.
