Probable e1000e corruption culprit found (and 2.6.27.1 released)

The probable source of the famous e1000e bug has now been found: it appears to be the ftrace tracing framework. In particular, it has to do with function tracing when modules are removed from the kernel. Click below for details on where things went wrong.

Meanwhile, the -stable team has released 2.6.27.1, which disables ftrace.
