Running the Chromium browser on Ubuntu 8.04 with CrossOver Chromium (HowtoForge)

HowtoForge presents a tutorial on running the Chromium browser under Ubuntu 8.04. "Chromium is an open-source browser project that is the basis for Google's Chrome browser. Right now, Chromium doesn't support Linux natively, but Codeweavers has created a Linux port called CrossOver Chromium that can be installed free of charge. This guide shows how to install CrossOver Chromium on Ubuntu 8.04."

Chromium is quite nice but I found some of the fonts used were horribly pixellated, and it doesn't include any security updates, so it's best used on friendly sites only - see http://www.codeweavers.com/services/ports/chromium/. Google really needs to get the Linux version done...

Yeah, there's something odd happening with the fonts or text rendering, which means that lines of text don't come out straight. Instead of the bottom of the characters forming a neat line, it's like the letters are resting on a slightly wavy line, which looks quite strange. Anyway, it's fun to play with this Wine version to check it out, but if Google made a native Linux version with DEB/RPM/etc packages for AMD64, then I'd certainly install that.
