I wonder why they didn't release the code to the current version... That's easy. That's probably is what the distro they use on their test machine has considered "stable". Here on my Gentoo machine(s):
qlist -Iv hal Would things work better if I unmask a newer version of HAL? Yea, maybe. I don't know what could work better, though. All the hardware in my laptop (HP-dv6871us) is recognised and running. Why would / should I then bother at that point? M.

What you see in the listing is not related to the Atheros HAL the announcement is about. It's HAL the daemon from the freedesktop.org project.
