That is an awesome video. I understand quantitatively how fast 5 seconds is but there's nothing quite like actually watching it. Love how the desktop smashes into existence at the very last second.

Any chance of getting this to work on the OLPC...? Since its power saving hasn't lived up to the promises, booting it fast would be very very handy.

A little less than 3 seconds (75MB of data at 25MB/s). The CPU and the SSD are both always busy from t=1.02 to t=4 seconds. The transfer latency is almost completely hidden, whereas before there was little overlap. Compare the bootcharts.

it helps a little over 2 seconds; might sound little but remember that this is for a 4 second userspace part of the boot...
