They simply meant it wasn't fair for the sake of this exercise.

It's not wrong, if done right. It just didn't count for their target of
"everything necessary in 5 seconds." Minus networking, apparently, but
that's fine, since with wireless I don't generally get net access until I
login in and select an access point anyway.
