So, I haven't had any problems with PA. Its big, rewritable buffers that it markets as "glitch-free playback" look great from a power-savings point of view, and compare favorably to what's available in windows these days.

It's not like Alsa is the bee's knees after all, it's fine as a hardware abstraction layer, but as an audio API it is unsatisfying. Better to write to a simpler API, like that offered by Jack or PA.

I also disagree with the suggestion that PA or GStreamer are equivalent choices for "[d]evelopers who want to play audio", as the otherwise-excellent author asserts. They are completely different and complimentary problem spaces, as anyone who has worked with either would realize.
