This is interesting because Motorola has been claiming that they can't make a 3G capable Linux phone due to lack of drivers for UMTS chipsets. All the members of the RAZR family that run Linux are sans 3G.

HTC Dream Android phones seem to run 3G just fine. Will be out next month.

I'd guess that Nokia found a module (that can use less customized drivers) instead of a chipset. It's a whole lot easier to build a tablet than a phone in this respect.

"ATD..." seems to work here just the same. Standardised, layered interfaces exist for a reason. Don't reinvent something if it's already abstracted for you.
