Small note for all those blaming Red Hat or Linux or whatever and saying "it would never happen with $FAVOURITE_PROPRIETARY_SYSTEM" - I think I've found a pretty basic build bug in Apple's Perl build supplied with MacOS X 10.5 on Intel but we're still investigating.
