Mozilla did something like this; they closed all reports that had not been touched for more
than some longish period of time IIRC.  This included a few that I had reported, and which had
not reached the top of anyone's to-do list.  It did not make me feel as if my contribution was
valued and I would strongly discourage other projects from adopting the same approach.

All you had to do to keep the bug alive was post a comment to it. If you couldn't be bothered
to do that, I guess it wasn't that important.
