It is ironic that prior to this a Dutch group of researchers won their case to publish their cryptanalysis of the Mifare Classic card, with the court saying: Damage to NXP is not the result of the publication of the article but of the production and sale of a chip that appears to have shortcomings. So the cat was well and truly out of the bag on that facet of the MIT paper.
