May I add that a lot of printer-related documentation is
confusing? There is no standard terminology used for the
various processes involved in printing. Translation of data
from one language (PCL, PostScript, ASCII) to another is done
variously by "filters", "interpreters", "processors" and "drivers".
Transport of the data is done variously by "drivers", "printers",
"interfaces", "backends" or "spoolers". And what is used to
connect it all together? "Foomatic".
