As far as I know, that was only true for the Neo 1973, and has been fixed for the Freerunner. I'm no expert however, please consult the nice wiki.

You can read it at http://lists.openmoko.org/pipermail/community/2007-Januar... I do not know yet about the Wifi, GPS an other Openmoko devices.
