Non-Commercial announcements
A
call for funding
has gone out for the recently created Django Software Foundation.
"
A short while ago, we announced the creation of the Django Software Foundation, a non-profit organization that exists (among other reasons) to sponsor Django coding sprints and other events for our community.
Now, we're kick-starting the foundation by holding a fundraising drive.
With Django 1.0 around the corner, our immediate goal is to raise enough money to support the upcoming pre-1.0 coding sprints, which bring developers together in the real world for highly productive design and programming sessions. After the 1.0 release, we're planning to fund regularly scheduled sprints, user meet-ups and other community events."

KDE.News
reports
on the passing of Uwe Thiem.
"
I'm very sorry to let everyone know that Uwe Thiem, a long term contributor
to KDE, passed away yesterday at 14:45 of kidney failure. Uwe was one of the
longest contributors to the KDE family and was one of the original members of
the core development team. He moved on to become the main KDE representative
in Africa.
Uwe was one of the first people to write a book on KDE development, which
helped many people who have become regular contributors today, and was still
writing about KDE last week."
