The BitNami project has announced reaching the 150,000 download mark.

Purple Labs has
announced the acquisition of Openwave Systems' mobile software business.
"Purple Labs, a French developer of Linux-based mobile software, today announced that it has completed its acquisition of the mobile client software business of California-based Openwave Systems, in an asset sale valued at more than $32 million. The browser and messaging products acquired in the deal are among the best-selling mobile applications in the world, having already shipped in more than 1.5 billion mobile phones.
Following the acquisition, Purple Labs now supplies mobile browser software to all of the top 5 phone manufacturers, which together produce over 80% of the worlds mobile phones."

Opera Software has announced a web standards education program.

"The Perl Foundation is looking at giving some grants ranging from $500 to $3000 in August 2008.
In the past, we've supported Adam Kennedy's PPI and Strawberry Perl, Nicholas Clark's work on Perl internals, Jouke Visser's pVoice, Chris Dolan on Perl::Critic and many others (just check http://www.perlfoundation.org/grants for more references).
You don't have to have a large, complex, or lengthy project. You don't even have to be a Perl master or guru. If you have a good idea and the means and ability to accomplish it, we want to hear from you!

A call for papers
has gone out for Linux.conf.au.
"Linux.conf.au has announced the opening of the call for papers on Friday 4th July 2008, giving the open source software community the chance to present at one of the world's premier technical conferences.
Hobart TAS, Australia-- (4th July 2008) ---- The call for papers will remain open for a month, after which the best papers will be selected by an expert panel."
A call for papers for the 2008 MEITSEC conference has been announced.
"The Call for Papers for the MEITSEC 2008 to be held in Dubai is now open.
MEITSEC 2008 will be held at the Etisalat Academy from 16 to 20
November 2008. The event will consist of three-day pre-conference
workshops, and a two-day conference and exhibition."
The submission deadline is July 31.
A Power management microconf has been announced, papers are being accepted
until July 20.
"As a complement to the PM miniconf at OLS, there will be a power
management microconference as part of the Linux Plumbers Conference in
Portland between September the 17th and 19th. Rather than looking at
purely kernel or userspace issues, the focus of the conference will be
on the interaction between the two. We're interested in discussion of
what needs to be exposed by the kernel to facilitate maximum power
savings, and also what userspace needs to do to take advantage of that."
KDE.News has announced
2008 Akademy conference
program.
