I suggested this very thing in the comments for 2.6.25.6, and guess what :-) I was told to
"reread the thread because I had missed the point".  Heh.

The point, apparently, is that those who could help lessen the damage of security fixes going
unnoticed are NOT interested on doing it (because of various reasons) for -stable.  I won't
judge their reasons for this, but that's what it boils down to.   And that's really
unfortunate, because while it would not be the full round-trip to the moon, it would still be
a damn nice first step.
