Really. Last fall my brother purchased a new Acer Extensa 5620-6830 15.4in laptop. Intel Core 2 Duo, Intel GMA 3100 graphics, Intel Pro Wireless 3945 ABG. And Acer's 5 deg curved keyboard, which is the closest I expect to come to a real ergonmomic keyboard on a laptop or dtr. Not that it couldn't easily be done. Just that only Acer has even this 5 deg item, which makes Acer a personal requirement.
So being, I borrowed the Extensa and loaded a Ubuntu 7.10 Live CD for quick testing. Everything Just Worked: sound, network, wireless, graphics. The pre-loaded Vista didn't recognize my wireless network, but I'm not a Windows expert and -- not being my machine and my network not being my brother's -- I didn't spend any time trying to figure it out.
Okay, so Intel has to take a certain credit for supplying good Linux drivers for their chipsets. But Acer gets kudos for implementing them correctly. I hope they do as well with their AMD models.
