I tried to watch Corbet in the browser with gnash and failed. Then I poked at it a second to
find the url to the .flv which I wget'd. Then I started to play that file with mplayer only
to find the audio/video terribly out-of-sync (and with super low levels).
Now I understand youtube (but dislike) using .flv but why should I have to go thru this to
watch something from *Linux Foundation*. Totally lame.

I like this sort of thing because it makes it easier to tell were they are coming from.
To them:
Linux != Open Source,
Linux != Freedom.
For them Linux is a platform to launch competitive products. Some may be closed source, some
may not. They are more interested in doing what seems easier, more profitable, and more inline
with the larger computer world.
This is fine. It's useful information since it gives you a good idea of their goals and on
what sort of things they are useful for and you can trust them with.

If you access the page with javascript disabled it offers a nice link to the raw FLV video. My thanks go to the wonderful NoScript.
Also, xine shows the video perfectly. (VLC displays it well, but seek doesn't seem to work.) I always keep them around, and lately mplayer is showing a certain state of decay.
