FWIW, this problem is not limited to Firefox.  Evolution, as an example, does a disk write and
fsync on every mouse event received when you drag certain things in its interface.  Speaking
for myself, I haven't noticed these problems since I installed a huge NVRAM-fronted RAID in my
desktop computer ;)
