You forgot the Sylware Maxim: if it's C, it is ipso facto light and clean and elegant, regardless of any properties of the actual code. If it's C++, it is similarly ugly and bloated, even if (as with much of the STL, say) its size hit is exactly as low as it would be with hand-crafted C code. This is religion. It doesn't need to have a grounding in mere plebeian *facts*.
