1. As the JDK is now open source, the community could provide such functionality if it was deemed important. OpenJDK has a plugin implementation for firefox, that could be ported if someone wants to do it. If adobe decides not support flash on 64bit, you're screwed. 2. The 32 bit plugin works fine using nspluginwrapper. As I can't think of any applets that would need to address more than 2 gigs of memory, there's really no advantage to running a 64 bit plugin.
