I guess it doesn't really count as a "major" option, but I really like the sound of the
OpenMoko FreeRunner.

OpenMoko sounds cool, but I'm having trouble finding evidence of actual available and 
working phones in the U.S.

Well -- first version was 'alpha' targeted at limited number of geeks to give it a ride. 2nd
version is about to come out for sale. Keep an eye on
