In that case I guess that they would be better off providing value in other areas, instead of just the kernel. According to LinuxDevices' annual survey, development tools are an all time favorite, but documentation and support would also be fine. These are things that no sane devs want to build on their own. But of course they take more effort than just tracking kernel.org and integrating a stream of patches.
