Wine Release Countdown

A Wine Release Countdown is in progress. "wine-0.9.61 was released on Friday, May 2nd, 2008. Wine is now in a code freeze in preparation for the 1.0 release. According to http://wiki.winehq.org/WineReleasePlan, wine-1.0.0-rc1, due out Friday, May 9, 2008, will be the first release candidate for 1.0."

Finally. Wine has been stable and usable for many years now. Why they stuck with the
misleading 0.x version numbers is beyond me.

Because 'stable and usable' aren't the only metrics for project versioning. Feature set also
plays a role, and the Wine team has for quite some time had some very specific ideas of what a
'release' version of Wine should contain.
