The ksplice tool holds out the promise of applying security patches to a running system without the need for a reboot. It is thus of interest to those running systems with high uptime needs and others who, for whatever reason, do not want to reboot. This article (from this week's Kernel Page, subscribers only) looks at how ksplice works and some obstacles to its inclusion into the mainline kernel.
