What's bad about tiling window managers?

I know two of them, Ion and larswm, and I've used Ion for an extended period of time. I liked it. (What kept me away from larswm was that it didn't allow me to customize the key bindings to my liking. Hardly something that means that tiling is fundamentally bad.) I agree that Ion still needs some way to deal with applications that don't play ball with the tiling, but once that's added, what's wrong with it?
