It's a VIA CPU -- 1.6 GHz is probably equivalent to the 1 GHz Core ULV in performance at best.
I'll bet the 2 GB requirement is just for parity with the Windows variants of the same laptop.
Memory's cheap nowadays anyway, so why not 2 GB?
