Radio transmitters, such as wireless network adapters, are generally not legal to tamper with. Hardware implementing a DRM-scheme are not legal to modify to circumvent the DRM part. (Or rather the tampering is legal but certain actions in association to it would be prohibited. Removing DRM as a service would be illegal f.ex.)
