Microsoft Launches Document Interoperability Initiative Posted Mar 6, 2008 19:13 UTC (Thu) by rahvin (subscriber, #16953) [Link] Microsoft today announced an initiative to promote the OOXML standard and the importance of standard "choice". This initiative includes ample use of buzzwords to appear open and confuse PHBs and government agencies into believing that OOXML is actually implemented by Microsoft. Not only that but that the format is actually a "standard" even if no one can import or export documents from Microsoft products because they don't conform to standard. Microsoft will devote significant resources to promoting the standard that Microsoft among sucker^h^h^h^h^h^h partner company to implement while at the same time being incompatible with Microsoft products. Microsoft will also work diligently to develop numerous patents to apply to format so that anyone attempting to use "open" format will pay Microsoft lots of money and structure patents such that GPL software will be unable to use "open" format and will aggressively shift the blame to the un-American GPL. Microsoft also commits to devote significant resources to ODF template importers that will make export to ODF impossible and will ensure printing of ODF documents will result in bad formating, lots of blank pages and use of unintelligible fonts while shifting blame for bad printing to be result of using ODF, not any Microsoft product. Microsoft's commitment to "open" standards is apparent in their pursuit of making OOXML an international standard. Evidence of ISO vote rigging is all lies by un-American communist viral GPL aggressors who lie about cake availability.

Same day: Open Parliament Posted Mar 7, 2008 16:27 UTC (Fri) by coriordan (guest, #7544) [Link] That's funny. Open Parliament launched the same day (although it won't really be publicised until Monday/Tuesday next week. Open Parliament is a call to the European Parliament to start accepting and using open standards - so that citizens no longer have to be customers of any specific company to be able to communicate with MEPs or read/view the parliament's documents/streaming.
