It's a bit surprising no one's mentioned DRM in this
discussion yet, because this is DRM.
Just like DRM, it is technically ineffective. It's trivial
to workaround this, particularly since it's free software.
Like DRM it is legally dubious -- I have a perfect right under
the GPL to combine closed software on my own laptop, just as
I have the (moral) right to flash my DVD drive to remove region
coding restrictions to play my purchased out-of-region DVDs.
If people are distributing works derived from GPL code without
source, then that's a matter for the courts, not for C macros
on kernel symbols.
